The Parent-Teen Training Guide will help you and your teenager understand the education/training requirements and driving restrictions for drivers under the age of 18. You may study the rules of the road and prepare for a DMV driving test by reviewing the California Driver Handbook, and Behind-the-Wheel Drive Test Prepartaion. These publications are available on the DMV (Internet) website at www.dmv.ca.gov or by calling 1-800-777-0133.
Step 1: Complete Drivers Education (Call for details or click on WelcomeDriver to be sent to the Welcome Driver website.)

Step 2: Complete Application and PASS WRITTEN TEST to Receive Permit.

To save time, DMV customers can fill out the online Electronic Driver License and ID Card application before visiting a DMV field office. If you plan to apply for a driver license or ID card during your visit, you should complete this electronic application before you arrive.
The simple electronic application will guide you through filling out the required information. When you arrive at a DMV office, DMV employees can quickly access your completed form and begin to process it.
Step 3: TAKE First Driving lesson to validate permit
Step 4: Complete Drivers Training - 6 Hours (Refer to "CLASSES WE OFFER & PRICES") 50 Hours of practice with parents 10 Hours of driving at night
Step 5: Have held your permit for 6 months or more
Step 6: Take your driving test at the DMV
